Matthew Baker – Double Bass

Matthew Baker began his professional career in double bass at the early age of 13 as section, and later principal, double bass of the Sioux City Symphony Orchestra. He has played with many world class orchestras such as the London Symphony orchestra, BBC Philharmonic, and Philharmonia orchestra and currently holds a position in the Palau de les Arts (Valencia), the opera orchestra founded by Lorin Maazel in 2006. Matt has also performed as a soloist in front of the Sioux City Symphony Orchestra, the Peñiscola Festival Orchestra, and the chamber ensembles Moonwinds, Ensemble La Seu, and Koutet. From 2001 – 2006, Matt joined the theatrical string septet, Gogmagogs, directed by Lucy Bailey, which won critical acclaim from its over 200 concerts around the world.

Beyond his work in classical music, Matt Bak- er has established himself as a leading figure in jazz and world music and can be found on numerous recordings with his own ensembles as well as with jazz and celtic legends such as Eric Ineke and Catriona McKay. Matt has shared the stage with jazz greats such as Bob Mintzer, Clark Terry, Dave Samuels, Jorge Pardo and Terri Lyne Carrington amongst others.
